Fundación ROBOTIKER is a Technology Centre specialising in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Product Development. Its purpose is to contribute actively to sustainable development in Society through Research and Technological Innovation. Founded in 1985, it is a private, not-for-profit Foundation located in the Technology Park of Bizkaia (Spain), Madrid and Santiago de Chile. ROBOTIKER is a member of the TECNALIA Technology Corporation, the biggest independent, private technology corporation working in applied research in Spain and a reference point in the European Research Area. It is ISO 9001 certified since 1997.
RTD activity in the ICT field essentially focuses on technologies for Ambient Intelligence, Mobile and Wireless technologies, Assistive technologies, e-Applications, and models for Innovation Management. Among its reference markets it is worth mentioning the Public Administration, Telecommunications, Energy, Metal-mechanical and Automotive sectors.
ROBOTIKER is in very close contact with the world of people with disabilities and elderly people, not only carrying out development projects for the most relevant Basque and Spanish associations and companies, but even establishing framework agreements for collaboration with them, developing spreading events, generating new ideas for innovative projects to be presented to the Public Institutions, promoting the RTD programs dealing with the assistance for people with disabilities in the private companies, creating new technology-based companies and so on.
ROBOTIKER has developed several projects dealing with solutions for people with disabilities and elderly people, and surveys with end recommendations in accessibility fields for Regional and National Public Administrations. More specifically, we have developed several national and European R&D projects dealing with Communication and device control interfaces for people with special needs, HCI (intelligent and multimodal interfaces) for mobile devices (PDAs, smart phones, etc.) for elderly people and people with disabilities, Intelligent supervisory control systems for smart homes, Ambient Intelligence (AmI) for home environments and Design for all techniques.
