Insitut TELECOM (former GET) is a federation of French graduate schools in telecommunications in the field of information and communication science and technology (ICT): Telecom ParisTech, Telecom Bretagne, Telecom & Management SudParis (former INT), and two establishments created in partnership (Telecom Lille 1 and Institut EURECOM).
Insitut TELECOM is under the authority of the French Ministry of Industry. Its mission is to provide training programs and to conduct research in ICT and is also to contribute to the industrial development of ICT through the utilization of science and technology and development research carried out in close collaboration with industry. It interacts very closely with the business world, through research contracts and life-long learning programs, and through its consulting, standardization and business start-up support activities.
It features around 550 teaching and research staff, 4600 students, including 600 doctoral students. Its research teams cover a broad spectrum of disciplines from fundamental technologies, information processing, networks, computing and software to the economic, social and legal aspects, industrial strategies and new services and usages, thus allowing research programs in the fields of mobile, satellite and optical communications, access networks, multimedia, business communications and the Internet.
Insitut TELECOM is highly involved in the European Framework Programme and participated in more than 40 FP6 projects. It is scientific coordinators of two NoE : EURO-NGI/FGI (Next and Future Generation Internet) and BIOSECURE (Biometrics for secure authentication). It is also partner of the NoE NEWCOM (Wireless Communications) as well as in several other networks, IP and STREP, in the fields of broadband communications, security, networked audiovisual systems, home platforms, eLearning.
